If you missed Tuesday night, Texas A&M men's basketball opened the 2026-27 season with a 97-66 win over Alabama State at Reed Arena. Four transfers accounted for nearly two-thirds of the scoring, and Kansas State transfer PJ Haggerty led the way.

It's a new-look group. KBTX counts 11 new players from last year's team, and coach Bucky McMillan hopes the fall trip to the Bahamas for exhibition games brings earlier chemistry than last season. CBS Sports lists Haggerty, Jordan Pope and Tyshawn Archie among the transfers, and Mackenzie Mgbako returns after missing all but seven games with a broken foot.

  • Haggerty's night: 22 points, 8-of-14 from the field
  • SEC preseason poll: Aggies picked ninth
  • Last season: 22-12 and the NCAA Tournament's second round
  • Alabama State last season: 10-22

“We've got a good team this year. Last year, we were very close.”

Don't expect bulldozers yet. FOX44 reported the vote doesn't mean removal will happen right away or at all, because Texas Avenue is controlled by the Texas Department of Transportation. The city says it may need written consent from , or an agreement delegating control of the medians to the city, and legal review may also be needed.

  • : city plans to seek funding for U-turn space
  • Funding for removal: city says it will work to identify a source

The Wrap

The Arts Center of Brazos Valley has opened a gift shop, and the star is the Brazos Valley's first Art-O-Mat, a repurposed cigarette machine that now dispenses miniature works of art. The shop also sells work by local artists and artisans. A vending machine that hands out art? Pull the knob.
