  • A Texas A&M faculty panel reported that firing Professor Melissa McCoul—dismissed after a classroom debate video went viral—violated her academic freedom, and she has since appealed the decision while university officials maintain the dismissal was due to course catalog misalignment.   • The College Station Police Department said retired Lt. Michael R. Mathews passed away peacefully Monday morning. He served the community for 30 years—from 1976 to 2006—and was respected for his long career.  KXXV
