- ➤ Texas A&M freshman-led Y'alloween organization (led by BJ Rottinghaus) gave over 650 costumes to underprivileged children to help them celebrate. The Eagle
- ➤ Two Girl Scouts from Troop 9018 built a small wooden book nook in the Healing Garden at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in College Station—this free library gives patients and visitors a quiet place to read. The project helps meet local literacy needs and offers comfort during treatment. KXXV
- ➤ Bryan and College Station are hosting multiple Halloween events throughout October. Organizers say local festivities will bring community activities and more details will be shared soon. The Eagle

- ➤ A nationwide shortage of cattle and rising input costs have hurt local beef producers in Bryan as farms face tough times—Hurst Livestock Co. has struggled to expand its herd. Past droughts have strained farms and experts say herd expansion will take 2-3 years. The Battalion

- ➤ Hurricane Harry’s closed its doors on December 8 due to new construction plans, yet locals now say it might reopen in the Shiner Park space in Northgate. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M Interim President Tommy Williams ’78 said he will not seek a permanent role as he takes on the job temporarily—he said he plans to listen closely to students and faculty while guiding the campus until a new leader is chosen. The Battalion
- ➤ A&M launched a new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre in Fall 2024 that has trained students in performance, design and production (a method where shows are created without a set script). The program also encourages students from all majors to learn creative skills for work in theater and other fields. The Battalion
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ College Station City Council is gathering input from Midtown residents to shape a small area plan for their neighborhood—following a failed data center proposal. Council plans to improve access from Midtown to Highway 6 and may add a baseball complex, with decisions expected by mid-November. KXXV
- ➤ Texas A&M Forest Service approved $164 million in grants to give rural volunteer fire departments new fire trucks & slip-on units to boost emergency response after departments submitted requests by Nov. 7. The funding, part of the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, follows a $192 million allocation to further equip local teams. KXXV
