EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tommy Williams '78 was named interim president at Texas A&M after former President Mark A. Welsh III resigned following a unanimous vote by the Board of Regents—he will work with the campus community as the Board continues a national search for a permanent leader.  The Battalion
  • Texas A&M University broke ground today for the $250 million Aplin Center named after Buc-ee's founder Arch-Beaver Aplin, which will replace the current visitor center and serve as an academic hub for food, nutrition, retail and hospitality. The three-story building is set to be completed in February 2028.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents named Tommy Williams as interim president on Friday afternoon after former President Mark Welsh resigned. Williams, a 1978 graduate—he understands Aggie values—will meet with students soon as the board continues its search for a permanent president.  KXXV
  • A new federal executive order adds a $100,000 fee for new H-1B visa applications filed on or after September 21st, leaving Texas A&M students and staff worried about future opportunities. The fee is designed to stop fraud and protect American wages but may limit the hiring of skilled international professors in key STEM fields.  The Battalion
  • Governor Greg Abbott attended the groundbreaking at Texas A&M last Friday to celebrate the new Aplin Center — a 211,724-square-foot learning lab for hospitality and marketing majors funded by a $60 million donation from Buc-ee's founder Arch 'Beaver' Aplin III that will be completed in 2028.  KXXV
