COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ College Station officials are planning a new public rec center that could cost up to $80 million and plan to present the project to voters in a 2027 bond election. A community steering committee will meet to pick a site and design the facility’s programs—possible locations include the old Macy's store, Wolf Pen Creek and Central Park. KXXV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M President Mark Welsh III left the Administration Building on Friday at 11:55 a.m. with his wife Betty after his resignation was announced, and hundreds of students and community members gathered outside with cheers as Reveille barked. During his farewell walk, Welsh thanked students, faculty, and staff for his two-year term and the university will soon appoint an interim president—continuing his legacy of selfless service. - ➤ Hundreds of Aggies gathered last Friday outside the administration building to bid farewell to President Mark Welsh on his final day, marking the second presidential resignation in two years as he stepped down at 5 p.m. The Board of Regents will soon launch a national search for his replacement—Dr. James Hallmark served as interim president.
