EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M regents approved a citizenship initiative to help students learn how to be responsible citizens+ the university will soon begin the steps to roll out the program.  The Eagle
  • Brooks Moore was named Texas A&M University System’s next general counsel by the Board of Regents last week. He will lead as chief legal officer for A&M in his new role.  The Eagle
  • Six residents filed for three College Station school board seats today+two of them are incumbents.  The Eagle
  • College Station ISD has launched a new bus tracking system using the StopFinder app that lets parents see when students board and exit to get delay alerts and extra safety reassurance. The system uses a quick scanning process—students tap their passes to log times on a tablet—for prompt notifications.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County's public defender's office will soon add a youth division funded by a grant from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission. The new division will include three attorneys—an investigator and a legal assistant—and will begin phased operations when funding starts Oct. 1 with full staffing expected by end of March.  KXXV
  • Texas banned the sale of lab-grown meat on September 1 when Senate Bill 261 went into effect—local barbecue owner Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que supports the ban while some attorneys argue the law unfairly shields cattle producers from future competition. The move means Texas consumers must rely on traditional meat, keeping local ranchers protected from new market entrants.  KXXV
