ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency is using new methods at Twin Oaks Landfill and the closed Rock Prairie Landfill to protect local groundwater by using vetiver grass to absorb leachate and by converting harmful gases into natural gas—saving over $1 million in taxpayer money. The agency will hold a free hazardous waste collection event on Oct. 18 for residents of several nearby counties. KXXV

- ➤ Brazos County commissioners will set the FY 2026 tax rate on Aug. 28 between a no-new revenue rate of $.387683 per $100 and a voter approval rate of $.423059 after a final budget workshop; corrections are due by Aug. 29 with a final vote on Sept. 9. The chosen rate will make the average home’s tax drop by about $32 at the lower rate or rise by about $108 at the higher rate—details that affect every property owner in the county. The Eagle
