ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • College Station police said today that Texas Avenue from Southwest Pkwy to Brentwood Drive is closed—fire crews are investigating a gas leak and drivers should use alternate routes.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • As students return to school, Bryan ISD bus driver Neola Aguon urged drivers to obey school zone speed limits in Bryan to protect children—she warned that speeding near schools can lead to accidents and harm everyone in the community.  KXXV
  • The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees voted Monday to call a $397M bond election that will affect all 23 school campuses in the district—voters will choose in November on a bond package with three propositions for general funds, athletics, and technology.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brazos County commissioners debated a state grant to fund new positions at the Public Defender’s Office on Tuesday, with Commissioner Fred Brown opposing the measure over concerns that future county spending could rise by $3.5 million when the grant ends—while the court approved the three-part grant covering mental health, juvenile, and appellate work. The discussion highlighted worries about ongoing funding requirements as the county meets increasing demands for legal services.  The Eagle
