GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The College Station City Council heard from outside agencies last Thursday on funding requests for the FY 2026 budget—totaling $3.3 million for groups such as the Brazos County Central Appraisal District and Keep Brazos Beautiful. No action was taken at the meeting, and Mayor John Nichols said council members will review these issues further during a budget workshop at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at City Hall.  The Eagle
  • Local lawmakers are preparing for a special session that begins on July 21 and lasts 30 days—Governor Abbott’s agenda lists 18 items, including four related to Hill Country flooding and 14 addressing other state-wide issues. Representatives Pat Curry and Trey Wharton will work on reforms such as eliminating the STAAR test and lowering property taxes—efforts that will shape the session’s focus on education and fiscal policy.  KXXV
