  • The second annual Brazos Valley Family Expo will take place Saturday at the Brazos Center in Bryan — locals can look forward to a day of family activities.  The Eagle

  • Martin’s Place Barbecue in Bryan celebrated its 100th birthday as owner Steve Kapchinskie kept his family’s century-old tradition of cooking over coals since 1939—honored with a Bryan City Council proclamation last month, the restaurant remains a local favorite with its simple, time-tested menu.  The Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • City officials launched the five-year initiative Cool Down College Station to reduce urban heat by planting trees that cool areas through shade and evapotranspiration — initial planting started in early 2024 in parks, municipal zones, neighborhoods, and medians. Officials plan to plant more trees at the end of the year to continue the cooling effort.  KXXV

  • Today, Texas A&M and the Beagle Freedom Project meet at the District Court of Brazos County to finalize a lawsuit that could transfer two beagles — Chami and Felicity — from an NIH-funded gene therapy experiment marked by claims of mistreatment and a caregiver’s dismissal.  The Battalion
  • Representatives Paul Dyson and Trey Wharton shared lessons from their first session in the Texas Legislature; the 89th session ended June 2 after 140 days. They discussed how their bills on housing impact fees, law enforcement safety, and school funding stirred local debates — points they say will guide their work — and plan to speak with constituents in their districts soon.  The Eagle
