EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M’s Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) is urging officials to allow non-lethal self-defense tools such as pepper spray and tasers for on-campus residents after a petition with over 2,000 signatures was submitted. The group argues that clearer rules would help students feel safer following reports of dorm intrusions.  The Battalion

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A winter storm hit Aggieland this past weekend, causing icy roads and power outages when a car crashed into a power pole on Jan. 24, leaving nearly 500 homes without power. Emergency Management urged students and residents to stock up on supplies & winterize vehicles.  The Battalion

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas A&M hosted a panel on voting and redistricting at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on Jan. 21. Faculty, staff and community members listened as experts, including Nobel Laureate Dr. Eric Maskin, explained how recent court decisions affect electoral rules.  The Battalion
  • Gov. Abbott has ordered Texas public universities and state agencies, including Texas A&M University, to freeze new H-1B visa petitions until the Texas Workforce Commission grants permission through May 31, 2027. Institutions must submit detailed reports on current visa holders to ensure that taxpayer-funded positions are offered to qualified Texans.  KXXV
